Featured Madagascar Musician: Tence Mena ,

At  the age 30 and a mother of two, this singer who goes by the name of Tence Mena, is a rising star in Madagascar and has conquered the public hearts with her unique and niche style as compared with most Malagasy artists that tend to look similar. Maybe, this can be attributed to her living abroad, France for a couple of years.

Born as Hortencia Maroanjara on 27/11/1982 in Andapa Madagascar, nothing seems to stop  Queen of mipoapoaka. Since late 2010, the date that marked her solo career with the release of her first album "Samy mahery," the singer  looks impressive with her hairstyle and stage outfits that is different from her fellow artists.
This Musician is colorfulvery imaginative and a perfectionist-she writes her choreography, compositions and musical arrangements.

Tence Mena first made her debut as a dancer in groups such as; as Ejema, Tirike, Wawa and Fandrama.

Unless you know her very well, you could easily mistake her for a saucy lesbian. However, she's just camouflaging her soft and flagile inner side with a hard and No nonsense punky-feminism.

After a stint abroad for three years, she returned home and determined to start her own band with a new style: the black feeling.
Her music, is mostly composed of traditional and jijy salegy, first made its debut in 2011. Her rhythm is, warm and with a powerful voice-the charisma she portrays while performing, makes her a singer that leaves traces wherever she goes.

When she realised that her aggressiveness performance on stage was intimidating the public, she quickly defended it, as a way of conveying a messages to the public of Women's empowerment.

She always Dream  of becoming a famous artist since childhood, Tence Mena has achieved her goal in record time after Tirike dancer groups, Ejema, Wawa, and Dr. JB Zombaya Fandrama.
The second album "Second Declaration: mandeha tidal" ihas been available since early 2012.

At every perfomance, innovation has not gone unnoticed-she's a world-class, and the originality are the two highlights of this artist.

While at antsiranaise, she proved to be very energetic and unleashed once again, her power on stage.

Also diring her two recent appearances, including dance Nov. 30 at Circle Mess Antanimora where she has celebrated her 30th Birthday-she once again ignited the popular venue with the best tubes (A base speed Tsisy karah'ty, Hagnajima, Virus music ...). and the explosive cabaret on Dec. 14 at Jao's Pub Ambohipo.

Tence Mena has had a great year and she also acknowledges it in her own words:

"Not being remained idly throughout the year, I just recorded a perfect season. Travel to Mayotte and Reunion complemented by a long national tour from North to South and from East to West are summarized in a great success and a positive."

Though Malagasy people love their music like in any culture, the production quality is still very poor. This is due to clingy managers and endemic corruption-people in Madagascar can be very big-headed, especially when  they quire some minimal technical ability, they'll think they already know everything.
The other problem is originality, the little managers with political ties, tend to love some wacky special effects in video production copied from each other-that's why I had to pull out something a bit descent.

However, there's a bit of hope;with the new political changes underway, the political motivated clingy managers might disappear from the scene-fingers crossed.
